We are looking for a driven Mechanical Design Engineer

As Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support the design of critical components and systems of the Thorizon reactor. You will work closely together with our systems engineers as well as a larger team of functional experts in the development and building of those critical parts. In this role you will create 3D drawings based on system requirements as well as the input of the team. Using your experience you will test and validate feasibility, performance and manufacturability of the component or system. You will challenge the team when you see issues or areas of improvement and jointly think towards solutions to make sure the component – and in the end the overall Thorizon reactor – is designed in a commercially viable way. This role is based in Amsterdam or Lyon.

In this role you will:

• Work together with a larger team of system engineers and functional experts to progress the Thorizon reactor design
• In this role you will design components and (sub)systems based on system requirements as well as the input of the team, and generate 3D models and drawings.
• Pressure test the design to validate feasibility, performance and manufacturability of the end product
• Be a link between designs on paper and practical execution (developing, building) of the Thorizon reactor
• Challenge the rest of the team when you foresee potential issues in the current design and be proactive and constructive in proposing solutions for those issues
• Report to the lead Mechanical Engineering. Day to day work is cross-functiona

• You have a degree in (Mechanical) Engineering, either Masters or Bachelor/vocational education.
• You have 10+ years of experience in systems or equipment design in a technically complex setting (experience in the nuclear sector is not required, interest in the sector is).
• You have a pragmatic and constructive mindset – you find ways to get things done even if they seem very challenging from the start.
• You preferably have experience in the design of systems dealing with high temperatures or other extreme conditions.
• You preferably have experience in the design of process equipment.
• You solve problems creatively and know when and how to involve other team members.
• You are eager to learn and like a new challenge.
• You are a team player, you like to be part of a larger project team for your day-to-day activities.
• You are an excellent communicator in English and either French or Dutch, both spoken and written.
• You are a hands-on self-starter who likes to work in a multicultural and dynamic environment that is growing fast.
• You like working in an agile manner and are comfortable with the fast-moving pace of a technological scale-up.
• You have an intrinsic motivation to make an impact and want to contribute to a responsible energy supply.
